Subject: Join Me in Supporting the Fight Against Von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) Disease
Dear Friends and Colleagues, in 2012, a close friend and valued colleague, who risked the local support and encouragement of his immediate family in Las Vegas, followed me to Seattle with his young family to lead the Pacific NW region for Verizon Enterprise, confided in me that his daughter had been diagnosed with Von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) disease. This rare genetic disorder leads to the formation of tumors and cysts in multiple organs. Over the years, I’ve witnessed her courage as she has faced numerous surgeries, most recently this past year. Despite these challenges, she remains a vibrant and accomplished young woman with immense potential, embodying the resilience and strength characteristic of those affected by this disease.
VHL is a genetic condition that can cause tumors, both benign and malignant, to develop in up to ten different organs throughout a patient’s life. While many of these tumors are benign, they can still be very serious. As they grow, these tumors and the associated cysts can cause increased pressure on surrounding structures leading to symptoms including severe pain.
In the coming weeks, the partners at VHL Alliance and I will be sharing details about an upcoming event aimed at raising awareness and funds to combat this often-overlooked disease. Your participation and support can make a significant difference in the lives of individuals like my friend’s daughter, helping them not only to live longer and more fulfilling lives but also to thrive and contribute their unique talents to our world.
Please consider how you can be part of this effort, whether through c in my US Mobile Connectivity Leaders walk, a walk you organize with your employees or friends, a donation, or by spreading the word. Together, we can offer hope and support to many children and adults affected by VHL. The following links will take you to the Mobile Connectivity walk page to share your support and the following link will take you to the general site to share your support.
Thank you for your time and consideration. Michelle at VHL alliance will be connecting with you soon to provide more information about how we can make a difference together.
Warm regards,
Ryan
